What’s the value of your Facebook following?
April 21st, 2010, Posted in Trendspotting
Great article last week in AdWeek. The supposed media value of a fanbook fan is $3.60 per year. In other words, based on the amount of exposure/word of mouth a single fan generates for your brand, if you have 5,000 fans, you would have to spend $18,000 per year in traditional media to generate the same amount of awareness.

Facebook to Scrap `Become a Fan Of’ for `Like’…
March 31st, 2010, Posted in Trendspotting
Facebook is about to change the way it asks its users to connect to brands and celebrities on the site. Rather than ask people to “become a fan” of say, Starbucks or Lady Gaga, Facebook will instead let users click that they like the subject. Facebook already lets people show that they like comments or pictures posted on the site, and it says users click that term almost twice as much as they click “become a fan.” Facebook says changing the button will make users more comfortable with linking up with a brand and will streamline the site.

Happy Time!
March 18th, 2010, Posted in Happy Time
I find the following very useful and poignant. Charlie Chaplin penned this on the day of his 70th birthday:
As I began to love myself I found that anguish and emotional suffering are only warning signs that I was living against my own truth.
Today, I know, this is “AUTHENTICITY”.
As I began to love myself I [...]

Facebook outpacing Google…
March 17th, 2010, Posted in Trendspotting
Social networking website Facebook has capped a year of phenomenal growth by overtaking Google’s popularity among US internet users, with industry data showing it has scored more visits on its home page than the search engine. In a sign that the web is becoming more sociable than searchable, research firm Hitwise said that the two sites accounted for 14 per cent of all US internet visits last week. Facebook’s home page recorded 7.07 per cent of traffic and Google’s 7.03 per cent.

US advertisers to spend more on digital than print in 2010…
March 9th, 2010, Posted in Trendspotting
Yet another article today outlining what we’ve been predicting for years: “US companies will spend more this year on digital and online advertising and marketing than on print for the first time ever, according to a study released on Monday.” Some call this trend a revolution. If you’re accustomed to or part of the traditional media world, then certainly it appears to be a revolution. If, on the other hand, you are one who embraces the “new”, then in your mind it’s more of an “evolution” than a “revolution.” We’re not revolting against the idea of creating awareness and generating revenues for our businesses. We’re simply evolving in what works and what doesn’t. It’s the natural progression of things. We dig it.

Energize Your Meetings
March 9th, 2010, Posted in Happy Time
Too often, meetings end and everyone simply goes back to business as usual without putting anything that was discussed in the meeting into action, or without even knowing what they should do. There is no simpler way to record what went on than by writing on a flip chart the who, what, and by when [...]
